Pictures of the Past

Last night, Jace and I, watched a slideshow of pictures from my Grandpa Lee on our Xbox.

We sat there for almost an hour.

And laughed at some pictures--my dad's old hairstyles and crazy long sideburns.

My dad ALWAYS has made faces in pictures.

We realized that my uncle Brian was a super cute baby.

My Grandma Flo had about a million different hairstyles through the years.

We looked for similarities in facial features in my great-grandparents and were trying to see if I inherited some of them.

My mom and dad look just like they did when they were our age--just a little bit older and more tired. (which, they deserve! raising 4 kids, one with special needs, going through TONS of their own health problems, and surviving cancer...yeah, they deserve to look a little more tired.)

I realized that i am so grateful for my ancestors. They are MY past. Jace looked at one of my parents wedding pictures, and looked at me and said, "this is where YOU began...this is the beginning of YOU."

Life is amazing, isn't it?

Peach Jam

My great-grandmother had a DELICIOUS jam recipe.

My grandpa used to make it all the time.

My grandma even liked it (whoa).

My grandparents taught my mom how to make it, and she taught me how to make it.

and yesterday we had some important jam making going on.

(emergency! my mom was completely out. the horror!) :)

I love it....and i kindof HATE peaches. Its that good. YUM.

Disappointing

I know that I talked about my disappointment with people a couple of posts back labeled "Advice"...

But in the last 2 days i have heard even more awful things said to other people, or done to other people.

Did you guys hear about that poor bus monitor who was tormented by those kids on the bus??

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/howaboutthat/9349023/Bus-monitor-bullied-by-teenagers-on-schoolbus.html

My friend is 30 weeks pregnant...and going through really hard stuff. They found out the baby has a major heart problem. And people, who don't know her or what shes going through, comment on how fat she is, how lazy she is, and how it looks like she "ran out of laundry and rolled out of bed".

Seriously, people?

And then, of course, there is me. My experience with that teenage boy a few days ago.

I've seen people comment on innocent and fun pictures, and turn them into something dirty and unnecessary.

Or purposefully "misunderstand" what you are saying, or trying to say, and make it either dirty, or mean and offensive.

I dont get it.

Why? Why, do people feel the need to do this to people? Honestly, my hormones are everywhere, and I'm prone to feel deeply for other people who get their feelings hurt, but I've been in TEARS for days because of all the ugly going on in our world.

And there is just so much ugly, so much hatred, so much violence. Why do we feel the need to add to it?

Advice

I recently have been happy.

having fun.

trying to be a better me.

its been a little bit of hard work, but i was doing it!

and then...

i was leaving work the other day,

and a boy of about 16-18 years of age almost ran me over with his bicycle,

and while he was in the wrong and almost injured me,

he still felt the need to scream out "get out of the way you fat b*tch".

and to add insult to injury he felt the need to start singing about the "fat b*tch" all the way down the street.

Let me give out some free advice.

you never know what people are going through.

if they have a medical issue that has made them gain weight (in which case they know they dont look good already and feel bad enough),

or if they are pregnant.

if they have low self-esteem,

or are depressed.

whatever you think in your head: KEEP IT THERE. DO NOT OPEN YOUR MOUTH if its negative.

the world has enough ugly, it doesnt need you to keep adding to it.

kthanksbye.
